Tip #1: Keep an eye on your thermostat!

Energy use does contribute a large amount to your overall heating and cooling costs. Energy.gov recommends that you can save up to 10% on your heating or cooling costs by simply setting the thermostat 8-10° warmer in the summer, and cooler in the winter, for 8 hours of your day. A programmable thermostat makes this easier for you to have this process automated, and can be accomplished by setting the program to run outside of your comfort zones when you are away from the home at work!

One of the best parts of our cellulose insulation has better thermal resistance than fiberglass insulation. Studies have shown that fiberglass insulation performance degrades with temperatures outdoors more than 30° cooler than indoor temperatures, while our cellulose insulation remains stable.

Tip #2: Replace older lightbulbs with LED bulbs

It may seem like a small change, but installing LED bulbs in your spaces will not only save money over time but will also decrease unintended heating from your light source to radiate throughout your space. While many light sources can increase the temperature in a given space, the LED lights now available are able to provide a large amount of light for a fraction of the cost, and last 3-5 times longer than incandescent bulbs. The Department of Energy even says these bulbs can use 75% less energy than traditional bulbs.

While lightbulbs of any type may be able to start an electrical fire, LED bulbs greatly decrease the overall risk of a fire starting due to a contact fire. In the event that a fire does happen, homes and businesses that have been insulated with our cellulose insulation, it has been proven to slow down the spread of fires and enable you to save precious items from your home.

Tip #3: Replace weather stripping under doors

One place heat and cool air can escape quickly are through the largest entryway to your home: exterior doors and windows. Replacing weather stripping is a simple and cost-effective way to reduce heat and air loss from your home.
